Easy RV Roof Repair

Whenever it is necessary for you to do an RV roof repair, there are certain things that must be kept in mind in order for it to be done properly. Regardless of whether you're dealing with a smaller Fleetwood trailer or if you are talking about mobile home roof repair, these same basic principles are going to need to be followed. What we are going to talk about in this article, however, is more of a metallic roof repair than a rubber roof repair. That doesn't mean, however, that you will not run up against the latter whenever doing an RV roof repair but you just may need to do a little bit of additional research. In your research you'll also find out about RV rubber roof replacement.

Whenever you are first starting out with your mobile home roof repair, one of the first things that you need to understand is that there are some basic areas that generally are trouble spots. Because the top of the trailer will be constantly exposed to the elements, such as the sun, wind and perhaps even cold, it can really wreak havoc on the overall finish. You will tend to develop leaks at common places, such as the caulking beginning to crack and peel or perhaps the sealant becoming old and cracked in the areas where the metal comes together. When that is the case, there is a specific way for you to be able to fix it.

Before I get into the basic repair job, you need to understand that there are always going to be shortcuts that can be taken and some people will take advantage of you as a result of that. For example there is tape available that claims to be able to help with any type of RV roof repair, including both metallic and rubber roof repair. Far from being true, you will often end up having a temporary fix which will leak whenever you least expect it. It is better for you to take the actual procedure than to take a shortcut. A good idea is also to check the specifications for annual roofing repairs for tips on your RV roof.

I have used this on my own Fleetwood trailer many times, and it works each time without difficulty. First of all, you identify where the leak is taking place and then cut that area out with tin shears. Cut a piece of aluminum sheeting that is larger than the area and after applying some repair paste, smooth in the aluminum and fasten it with self tapping screws. The final step is to apply a liberal coat of the sealing paste over top of the aluminum in order to seal any cracks which may have been left over.

RV roof repair does not need to be a difficult thing, and regardless of what type of repair your doing, the principles are going to basically be the same. As a matter of fact, you can even utilize the same basic principle on a rubber roof repair, although the materials are going to be a little bit different. For this type of mobile home roof repair, if you are able to seal it properly, it should keep you dry for many years to come. Regardless of whether you are using it on a Fleetwood or a larger mobile home, staying dry on the inside is something that all of us can appreciate.
